Modern buildings need to take into account a lot more than what has been considered before. With an increased focus on sustainability and eco building practices Sustainable Architects like to work with a variety of materials to ensure that they create the greenest building possible. Rebuilding to be classed as ecologically sound there has to be certain criteria that are met. This requires a particular skill of the architect as they have to balance the needs of the client and the costs that may be incurred by using more ecologically sound building materials.
The primary recommendation is that building materials are made from recycled components. This means the use of recycled plastic as a major component. Recycled wood can also be used for the frame of the building but also to create a shading system on the outside therefore reducing the need for air conditioning units.
Recycled steel can be employed to further strengthen the structure. Recycled glass, which is cheap to produce, can also be used on the frontages to create light and space without having to rely on electrical lighting systems. Precast concrete, saving time and energy on the site mixing and pouring it is also a constructive way to reduce the carbon footprint of the build.
When these factors are combined it means that the architects are able to make a real difference, not only in terms of future buildings but also improving the environment of the world in general.
