In any home, there is a multitude of pests that can hinder the comfort and tranquility of the occupants. In this area, the ant is undoubtedly one of the best known. It reproduces quickly, and there are sometimes several subspecies in one place, making the fight more difficult. Fortunately, there are various natural methods to get rid of ants.
Ants are kept away from their homes with a natural anti-ant
If the invasion of ants is not too important, you can first try to scare them away little by little so that they end up outside your house. Why not kill the ants directly? Because these little workers know how to make themselves useful, especially in the garden, by getting rid of the remains of other insects or by helping pollination. Important!
We can therefore first try to encourage them to change paths, because, as you may know, ants always follow the same route, and find their way thanks to the traces of pheromones that each leaves on the course. They will be easily destabilized thanks to strong odors placed on their route as the essential white vinegar, lemon, lavender, cinnamon, peppermint, or even basil. Ant repellents that are both effective and natural, all the more suitable if you have children and pets.
Also, put obstacles in their way by placing obstacles in their path, especially in strategic places like their different entry points to your home. Use coffee grounds, chimney ash, talc, chalk, or even diatomaceous earth for this.
How to get rid of ghost ants
Despite your efforts, you cannot come to terms with this invasion of ants? You can then eliminate the colony by locating their nest and pouring boiling water mixed with black soap, which will leave them no chance.
If the anthill is not visible, you can opt for natural ant traps as a mixture for so much sugar and baking soda placed in several places on their way, or even a mixture of a liter of water sweetened with 2 tablespoons of boric acid – however, avoid with children or pets, because boric acid is toxic.
1- The magic line against ants
Quite widespread, no doubt because of its effectiveness, this method consists in drawing a chalk line on the floor or on the wall. The line must be located on the route of the ants; as soon as they get there, it’s impossible for them to cross it.
2- Hot water, of course
If it looks somewhat radical, this solution is certainly effective. Again, hot water shows its usefulness. Here, it is enough to dilute soap there and to pour the whole in the nest of ants.
3- Essential oils, naturally
Known for the intensity of their scent, essential oils do not only heal. They can also hunt ants. You just have to spray a mixture of half a liter of water, with twenty drops of peppermint and ten drops of sweet almond.
4- Coffee grounds, a powerful product
Once you have identified the places through which the ants pass, pass a good layer of wet coffee grounds. The ants will not take long to move away.
5- The mixture of sugar and salt, an association with unsuspected virtues
Ants really like sugar, it’s a fact; on the contrary, the salt horrifies them. To get rid of them, you just have to add salt to a sweet product. They will be attracted to sugar, but the salt will destroy them.
6- Diatomaceous earth powder, a key remedy
Diatomaceous earth powder, brown or white, contains very old small algae. It is they who, thanks to their natural properties, are responsible for repelling all ants from afar.
7- Glue, the smart trap
If they believe they are very clever, the ants will nevertheless have a hard time anticipating this blow from you. Spread glue along a wall or on a floor, to prevent ants from going further than this place; the glue will hold them.
8- White vinegar, a simple solution
To keep ants away, you can simply spray white vinegar, pure or diluted with water, in the places frequented by ants. The strong smell will repel them.
9- Lemon, for a quick result
The acidity of the lemon is unbearable for ants. So squeeze a lemon in an area of the house that you want to get rid of ants, then leave the peels on the floor. After a few days, there will no longer be this lively ant place.
10- Baking soda, base vs. acid
If ants cannot tolerate external acidity, it is because they already carry acidic substances on them. Make a bait with sugar, and baking soda. Once the ant colonies have been attracted to the sugar, the meeting with the basic compound that is soda will be very unpleasant for them. And you will get rid of them.
